Balcony Glazing
Convenient and Practical Balcony Glazing
A glazed balcony is an excellent place to spend time with your family and friends in every season. Regardless of the size and type of your balcony, a balcony glazing system fits practically any balcony. Balcony glazing adds value to your home and looks great. It also provides protection against noise, dust and adverse weather conditions. The balcony glazing system has no vertical profiles, so it does not change the appearance of the building — instead, it gives it a finished look and protects the balcony from the elements.
Discover New Possibilities
For children and pets, a glazed balcony is a sunny and safe place. It is a great spot to set up a small garden with herbs and flowers or to start a dream hobby.
Main benefits of a glazed balcony:
- makes the balcony usable year-round;
- protects the balcony from precipitation and thereby prevents moisture from penetrating the building structure;
- improves the thermal insulation of your home;
- reduces street noise reaching indoors;
- makes the balcony safer for children as well;
- increases the value and security of your home;
- keeps birds away;
- adds useful living space;
- gives the facade a luxurious appearance.

Types of balcony glazing
There are several different systems for glazing a balcony, and each suits a different situation. Malmerk Klaasium manufactures all the main types of balcony glazing, and ATKA Klaaskoda will help you choose the best solution for your balcony.
Sliding balcony glazing
Sliding balcony glazing is the most common balcony glazing solution. The glass panels move between the upper and lower guide profiles and can be pushed behind one another to open the balcony fully. In the closed position, the panels form a uniform glass wall that protects against wind, rain and dust.
The greatest advantage of the sliding system is convenience — the balcony can be opened partially or fully, depending on the weather and your preference. The glass panels move on ball-bearing rollers, which ensures smooth and effortless movement even after years of use.
Folding balcony glazing
Folding — or bi-fold — balcony glazing is a solution where the glass panels fold compactly into one corner of the balcony. This frees the entire opening and gives the feeling, when open, that there is no glass at all. The bi-fold system is particularly well suited to wider balconies where a maximally open view is desired.
Fixed glass panels
Fixed glass panels are stationary elements that do not move. They are typically used in combination with sliding or folding glazing — for example in balcony corners or in places where opening is not required. Fixed panels give the balcony a solid and stable base and are well suited to windy locations, including the coastal climate of Pärnu and western Estonia.
Glass options for balcony glazing
Balcony glass panels are always made from tempered safety glass, which is up to five times stronger than standard glass. Tempered glass withstands impact loads, temperature fluctuations and wind significantly better, and when it breaks it shatters into safe granular fragments.
Malmerk Klaasium balcony glazing is available in several variants:
- Clear tempered glass (6, 8 or 10 mm) — the classic and most popular choice, which lets in maximum daylight onto the balcony;
- Tinted glass (bronze or grey) — reduces sun glare and gives the balcony an elegant appearance. Especially a good choice for south- and west-facing balconies;
- Matt laminated glass — provides privacy while still letting light through. Works well for balconies located near a pavement or neighbours;
- Thicker 10 mm glass — greater noise reduction, ideal for balconies on busy streets.
The choice of glass thickness and type depends on the size and location of the balcony and your preferences. We will consult with you on site and recommend the best solution.
The balcony glazing process step by step
Glazing a balcony is a project that begins with a consultation and ends with a handover. ATKA Klaaskoda manages the entire process in-house — you do not need to coordinate separate subcontractors.
- Initial consultation. You contact us and describe your needs. Photos of the balcony and approximate dimensions help us provide an initial assessment;
- On-site measurement. Our surveyor comes to you and takes precise measurements of the balcony. We also assess the condition of the balcony structure — whether the railings, floor and ceiling can support the attachment of the glazing system;
- Design and quotation. We prepare a detailed quote for you including glass type, profile colour and installation date;
- Production. Malmerk Klaasium manufactures the glass panels and profiles precisely to the measurements of your balcony. Production takes place in Estonia;
- Structural preparation if required. If the balcony needs reinforcement, railing replacement or other construction work, we carry this out before the glazing is installed;
- Installation. Our team installs the balcony glazing professionally. The duration of installation depends on the size and complexity of the balcony;
- Handover and guarantee. We inspect the quality of the work together with you, guide you on the use of the glazing and provide the guarantee documents.
Why choose Malmerk Klaasium balcony glazing?
Malmerk Klaasium is Estonia’s largest manufacturer of glass systems, whose products are designed and manufactured in Estonia. This means that the balcony glazing has been created for our climatic conditions — to withstand Estonian winters, autumn winds and summer heat.
- CE-certified and VTT-tested — the products meet European quality standards and have passed tests at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland;
- Made in Estonia — short delivery times and materials optimised for the Estonian climate;
- Wide colour range — aluminium profiles in standard colours (white RAL 9010, dark brown RAL 8019, dark grey RAL 7024) and, on request, the full RAL colour catalogue;
- Spare parts availability — because the manufacturer is based in Estonia, spare parts are quickly available even years later;
- Child safety lock — all systems have a child safety lock option that prevents children from opening the glazing.
Balcony glazing in Pärnu’s coastal climate
Pärnu and the entire western Estonian coastal region place special demands on balcony glazing. Salty sea air, strong winds and moisture mean that a balcony glazing system must be made from corrosion-resistant materials and professionally installed.
Malmerk Klaasium aluminium profiles are powder-coated, which provides excellent resistance to salty sea air. The ball-bearing rollers are made of stainless steel and the sealing materials withstand UV radiation and temperature fluctuations.
ATKA Klaaskoda is based in Pärnu and knows the local conditions. We have installed balcony glazing both in Pärnu city centre and in coastal homes where wind loads are above average. In addition to Pärnumaa, we also serve Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, where the island climate likewise requires particular attention to material selection and installation quality.
Balcony glazing maintenance and durability
Balcony glazing is virtually maintenance-free. Regular maintenance is limited to cleaning the glass with a standard glass cleaner a couple of times a year. The guide profiles and roller mechanism require no lubrication or adjustment.
Tempered glass withstands large temperature fluctuations (–30 °C to +80 °C) and is resistant to scratching. The powder coating on the aluminium profiles does not fade or peel over the years. The seals are made from UV-resistant EPDM rubber, which retains its elasticity even after prolonged sun exposure.
Properly installed and maintained balcony glazing lasts for decades. Malmerk Klaasium systems come with a 2-year manufacturer’s guarantee, and ATKA Klaaskoda guarantees the quality of the installation work.
Full-service glazing solution — measurement, construction and installation from one source
Many balcony glazing projects require more than just the installation of glass. Balconies on older buildings often need railing replacement, floor levelling or structural reinforcement before the glazing system can be attached.
ATKA Klaaskoda is the only company in Pärnumaa that offers a full-service balcony glazing solution — we carry out structural reinforcement of the balcony, replacement of railings and installation of the glazing all as needed. You do not need to coordinate a separate builder and a separate glazing installer. One contractor, one guarantee, zero hassle.
This is especially important for apartment associations, where glazing multiple balconies in one building requires a consistent visual appearance and quality. We coordinate the entire project ourselves and take responsibility for the end result.
How does ordering balcony glazing work (private customer)?
- We prepare a price quote for the customer based on the information received from the enquiry.
- If the customer agrees with the initial price indication, we arrange a suitable measurement appointment and our installer comes to measure the balcony.
- On this basis we draw up the final price offer, and if it is acceptable we sign a contract with the customer for the manufacture and installation of the balcony glazing and send an invoice for a 50% advance payment.
- Once the advance payment has been received and the contract signed, we begin production of the balcony glazing.
- Before installing the balcony glazing, the customer is contacted and a suitable time for installation is agreed.
- The balcony glazing is installed and the customer then pays the second instalment (50%).
For business and bulk orders (over 10 balconies), the work process is carried out according to agreement.
The quote for a private customer includes:
(does not apply to apartment associations and business customer orders)
- aluminium profiles Klaasium (powder-coated white RAL9010 / grey RAL9006 / dark brown RAL8019),
